Puttu, the guiltless staple breakfast of Keralites, has made it to the popular American talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
And it was a boy wonder from Kerala, Kicha, who turned Ellen’s studio into his kitchen. He taught Americans how to make puttu, aka, steamed rice cake, and Ellen, how to say it right.
Kichu is a six-year-old from Kochi who loves to cook and seems to have a healthy appetite, one blessing sought by most parents who struggle to get their kids to the dining table.
What made him famous is his own YouTube cooking channel and his chef videos that make the grownups lick their chops. It ultimately put him under the spotlight in the US.
Wearing a grey chef hat and a white jacket, Kicha took Ellen and the audience through the cylindrical puttu kutti that helps steam and transforms the ingredients — rice flour, coconut and banana — to perfect cannon-shaped pieces.
Watch him cook up a storm in the show.
