An Indian origin banker, Julian Bharti, the son of a Canadian businessman, paid 50,000 British pounds, equivalent to approximately Rs 48,95,825 for kissing 49-year-old actress Elizabeth Hurley as part of a fundraiser for Elton John AIDS Foundation.
The fundraiser to help eliminate HIV transmission from mother to child included performances by Chrissie Hynde, James Blunt and Elton John, at the last named star's annual ball near Windsor on Thursday.
Liz Hurley was not originally on the auction block.
Julian Bharti, 27, the son of Stan Bharti who moved to Russia from Punjab when he was 16, apparently has had a childhood obsession with British actress Elizabeth Hurley.
The Toronto Sun quoted Julian as saying that he joked with his father that he should make a donation to the charity for a Hurley lip-lock and the next thing he knew he was on stage with the actress sharing a bit of saliva.
“I’m glad it worked out,” Julian Bharti, a father of three said, adding he had his wife’s permission.
“My wife wasn’t upset at all. She's totally cool with it. I sent her a quick text before to give her a heads-up and she said, ‘Go for it.’”
Standing up to claim his prize, the 27-year old took to his task with gusto, clasping Hurley close to him and kissing her full on the mouth to the cheers of the watching celebrity crowd.
“I’ve always been a fan. She is 49 and stunning. The kiss was great, but it happened so fast it is a bit of a blur. She was very kind and was a good sport for a good cause.”
