The university that has been branded 'anti-national' by many segments of media and society, in the wake of the recent developments, is taking open-air 'nationalism' lectures almost everyday by eminent academicians and political commentators.
Everyday in the evening at 6 pm, Jawaharlal Nehru Univeristy's administrative bloc area that has been the harbour of numerous students' movement, metamorphoses into a classroom. The audience comprises of students, professors and the enthusiasts. With notepads in their hands, large number of students sit on the ground, absorbed in the lecture, disturbed only by the din of an ocassional plane that flies over JNU sky.
Several well-known academics including Tanika Sarkar, Mridula Mukherjee, Achin Vanaik, Nivedita Menon,Ayesha Kidwai addressed the students in the first week of the lecture series. Veteran journalist P.Sainath and social activist Teesta Setalvad have also been a part of this programme.
Veteran historians like Romila Thapar and Harbans Mukhia who identify themselves as 'dinasours of JNU'--attached to the univeristy since its formative days-- have addressed students on the history of nationalism and its emergence.
