State chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan prides himself as a crusader against sex and sleaze. But he now finds one of his cabinet colleagues—PWD minister P.J. Joseph—muddled in a controversy involving a former woman newspresenter of Surya TV. On August 3, the 65-year-old minister was flying from Chennai to Kochi. When the lights went off as the Kingfisher plane took flight, Joseph’s hand apparently stretched out to the front seat and came into contact with a passenger—a lady. A commotion ensued as she protested at the "indecent touch". She later filed a complaint with the airline. Joseph, though, is unfazed. "The small craft is congested, that’s how it happened," he reasoned. But the victim and her husband allege the minister wasn’t in his allotted seat. What’s more, he didn’t apologise and was caught hiding his face behind a sheet of paper when the lights came on, says the husband. The Kerala CM has directed IG B. Sandhya to probe the matter.
