Natural, you would think, considering how much spice Indians have brought to London. And seeing also how Kingsbury has adapted to Indian ways. The Red Lion could pass when Kingsbury was a white borough. No more. So too, The Honeypot was rechristened The Spice Rack. Historically, in the first such transformation, The Railway Tavern in Southall became Glassy Junction. To say it right, read the name in Punjabi: Galassy Junction.

"We were the first ones, now everyone else has followed," says Sat, galassy in hand, in a pub redecorated with clocks showing the time in Jalandhar and photographs of Punjab villages, with a rickshaw standing in the garden in the background. After the Railway Tavern it was the turn of The Scotsman, not far away. The old Scottish bagpiper still stands, albeit now in the company of pictures of a Sikh bagpiper, just within the back room which opens into the beer garden now renamed Milan Bagh. These are just a few among the pubs, which add up to hundreds now, all over London, where Indians gather to live. "There's a new club every week now," says Red Pepper regular Shyambhai. "I keep coming back here, but I do check out the others."
