TISCO headquarters Jamshedpur, which grew from a sleepy little hamlet in Bihar to a town bursting at the seams in the new state of Jharkhand, is the best proof of the group's social philosophy. tisco has practically built the town and the difference between the part of the town leased to it and the areas under the state government is telling.
The company manages almost everything in the township—it includes 26 schools, one college, the best hospital in the area and a park with a musical fountain. It distributes its power, controls water supply, maintains roads and greenery, and takes care of public health and civic services. It also runs an extensive sports training facility and two academies for football and archery. A third one for hockey is also being planned. Much of this will, however, now go to other private agencies.
