Collected Works of Sardar Patel to Hit Book Stores in January

A comprehensive collection of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's writings and pronouncements will be published in 15 volumes next month.

Brought out by Konark Publishers, the collection will be a reprint of the volumes that were compiled from various journals and periodicals tracing Patel’s life from 1918, when he made his debut in politics and came into close contact with Mahatma Gandhi.

The revised collected works comprise speeches, writings and correspondence (1918-1950) of India's 'Iron Man', who was instrumental in uniting the country through merger of small princely states and was one of the founders of our Constitution.

The collection is edited by late historian P N Chopra and Prabha Chopra.

"This collected work has been brought out to meet a growing interest and demand for such a comprehensive collection of Sardar Patel's writings and pronouncements. Researchers, scholars, students and the general public will find these volumes a wonderful resource," the publishers said.

The collection will be a tell tale history of India's freedom struggle highlighting historic landmarks in the movement spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel's vision and philosophy and his seminal contribution in unifying India.

On Patel's death anniversary yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India will forever be indebted to him for his tireless efforts to unite the nation.

Since it assumed power, the Modi government has made it clear that it wants to accord Patel his place in history.

On October 31, Modi had dedicated Patel's birth anniversary as National Unity Day.
