Former VHP leader Jaydeep Patel, who was summoned today by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning in the Naroda Gam riots case of 2002, did not turn up at the SIT office here.
SIT, constituted by the Supreme Court for re-investigating the Godhra train burning incident and some of the post-Godhra riot cases had summoned Patel to appear before the investigating officer today in connection with the Naroda gam riot case.
Patel had been asked to come to SIT office in Gandhinagar for questioning on December 25 while state minister for Women and Child Development, Maya Kodnani has also been summoned by the SIT in the same case to appear before the investigating officer on December 26.
Eleven people, belonging to the minority community, were killed by the mob during communal riots in 2002.
As per the initial charge-sheet field in the Naroda Gam riot case in 2002, many witnesses have named Kodnani and Patel in their statements in the case.
SIT, which has been proactive since early this months in conducting its investigation, have recently filed supplementary charge-sheets in three of the cases namely Naroda Patiya, Nroda Gam and Gulburge society case.
