The quaterly newsletter released by the Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal will provide information about institution, pendency and disposal figures of cases as well as vacancy of judges' post in the Supreme Court, High Courts and Subordinate Courts.
Appointments and transfers in superior judiciary, a gist of certain judgements of public importance delivered by the apex court in the last quarter and important developments relating to administration of justice including improvements made therein from time to time will be incorporated in the newsletter, the CJI said.
The endevour of the newsleter was to inform the legal fraternity as well as general public of the amendements if any to the rules and procedures of the Supreme Court, he said.
Maintaining that people must be kept informed about the functioning of all organs of the State, the CJI said "transparency leads to openness, accountability and integrity and free flow of information not only creates enlightened and informed opinion but also renders those in authority accountable".
"Availability of statistics and other required information will enable the society to assess judiciary and it institutions in a fair and objective manner," Justice Sabharwal said adding that the publication of the newsletter was an attempt in that direction.
