Hours after a gunbattle rocked the national capital, two persons tonight surfaced in the studio of a news channel in Noida claiming that they were in the car which Delhi Police claimed fled from the scene during the encounter.
The two persons, identified as Nadir and Harpal, were arrested by the Delhi Police.
A senior police official said the duo were taken to custody while they were giving interview to Sahara Samay news channel claiming that they were innocent and had nothing to do with the gang.
"We are verifying the claims of the duo. We want to know what is their role," the official said.
Four members of a gang of robbers, including its kingpin, were injured in a daylight shootout with police which claimed to have foiled their plan to rob a bank in a posh south Delhi locality while five other gunmen managed to flee.
According to police, five persons in a car escaped from the scene and they were part of the gang. Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for those providing any information about the absconding gangsters.
The duo claimed that there were only two persons inside the car and not five as claimed by police. One person claimed that he had gone to the area to meet his brother, one of the alleged gangsters who was injured in the shootout, but fled as the gunbattle began.
