Urdu literature can be helpful in bettering Indo-Pak relationship and animosity between the two countries can be removed through cultural activities, Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik said today.

Inaugurating 'Gosha-e-Ibn-Insha' corner at the Shibli Memorial Library of Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu here, Malik said Urdu literature should be used to bridge hearts and minds of people in both the countries.

"We can remove animosity through literary and creative writings. Mindset can be changed (through literature)... battlefields can be transformed into oasis of peace... Urdu literature can be helpful in (improving) relations," he said.

He said the two cultural programmes and literary functions should be encouraged.

"Great Indian and Pakistani poets still live in the hearts and minds of people of both the countries. They will stay in their minds," he said.

Later, in a brief interaction with reporters, Malik said athletes and players from Pakistan are eagerly waiting to participate in the Commonwealth Games.

When asked about concerns being expressed about the preparation for the Games, Malik said it was not for him to comment.

He also parried questions on Pakistan's probe into 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
