Andhra Pradesh's opposition leader and YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy today alleged that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader are "filling their pockets" in the name of projects and development schemes.
Addressing people in Gudepuvalasa, where the government plans to establish an international airport, he questioned the government for neglecting emotions of locals.
He said that even major airports were established on a lesser area than the proposed airport, adding that the Chennai airport was established on 1,200 acres, the Mumbai airport is on 2,000 acres and the Ahmedabad international airport has also been constructed on 950 acres.
However, the Bhogapuram airport will be set up on more than 5,000 acres, he said, adding that it is "a business deal" which benefits only real estate businessmen.
It is possible to develop the Visakhapatnam airport to meet future air travel demand instead of constructing a new airport at Bhogapuram, he said.
"Once our party (YSR Congress) comes to power, we will return lands acquired for the Bhogapuram airport, back to farmers," he said, adding that the TDP government has exempted lands, properties and resorts of TDP leaders like Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, and Avanthi Srinivas.
This proved that the TDP government is working for the welfare of corporate houses and not the common man, Jagan said.
The TDP government has protected lands of big people and grabbed small farmers' lands, bypassing even village administrations, though there is a lot of government and Visakhapatnam Port Trust-owned land available, he said.
There is a big scandal behind the Bhogapuram airport project, and TDP leaders are filling their pockets, Jagan said, adding that the YSR Congress will approach the court to stop the airport project.
