Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday said 'Uttarakhandiyat' will be at the centre of the party's campaign strategy in the poll-bound state.
Both Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu, after reaching Dehradun, also met party leader Harish Rawat—who was earlier Congress’s Punjab affairs incharge.
The decision comes after Harish Rawat urged the party high-command to relieve him as general secretary in-charge for Punjab affairs in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand.
Alleging that the former Punjab chief minister was playing into the hands of people with whom he had no ideological ties, Rawat said Singh should have stood with the Congress leadership to save democracy.
The Congress high command was learnt to have asked Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to resign ahead of the crucial Punjab Assembly elections 2022.
AICC general secretary Harish Rawat said: ‘sometimes by expressing respect, you use such words which are objectionable’.
Sidhu had said earlier that the party high command should give him the freedom to take decisions and he will ensure that the Congress remains in power in Punjab for the next 20 years.
Congress leader Harish Rawat said he wants to concentrate on upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly polls.
Malvinder Singh Mali had questioned Centre’s move to abrogate J&K’s special status and said ‘Kashmir is a country of Kashmiri people’.
Congress leader Manish Tewari questioned should those be part of the party in Punjab who have pro-Pakistan leanings and don’t consider J&K part of India.
With his task in Punjab over, Harish Rawat can now get back to his home state where he has the difficult task of making his party battle-ready before the assembly polls due in February-March 2021.
Harish Rawat's visit is being seen as an effort to placate Amarinder Singh who is opposed to Navjot Singh Sidhu getting any key post in the party
The meeting comes ahead of the party's Punjab unit revamp and amid reports that Navjot Singh Sidhu may get a key role in the organisation.
The list includes Dhan Singh Rawat, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Satpal Maharaj.
CM Trivendra Singh Rawat claims allegations against him are false and baseless
The Uttarakhand High Court gave its nod to the CBI to go ahead with its investigation in the case and lodge an FIR against Rawat after the agency submitted a report in a sealed cover on the preliminary inquiry.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday posted an open letter on Twitter, saying he had resigned as "accountability is critical" for the future growth of the party, in the wake of the disastrous Lok Sabha election outcome.
'Having failed to corner Modi in every other way, the Congress is now resorting to tantra-mantra (superstition),' Uttarakhand BJP media chief Devendra Bhasin said Wednesday.
