The court, after perusing the status report of the Karnataka Police, said there appears to be a link between the murders of journalist Gauri Lankesh and rationalist M M Kalburgi.
US national John Allen Chau was allegedly killed by a protected tribe when he tried to enter the prohibited North Sentinel Island.
The SIT's additional charge sheet stated that a network within Sanatan Sanstha targeted Lankesh for no personal reasons.
However, the probe agencies have not been able to establish the group's link with the killing of rationalist and communist leader Govind Pansare.
Girish Karnad along with many other activists took part in an event organised to mark Gauri Lankesh's death anniversary.
Gauri Lankesh, known for her progressive and fearless writing, was shot dead at close range by unknown assailants at her home here on September 5 2017.
The SIT has arrested 12 people including the alleged mastermind Amol Kale and sharpshooter Parashuram Waghmare.
Karnad was among the most vocal critics of hardline Hindutva whose security was beefed up following the killing of Lankesh in September last year.
The US-based journalist was in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss his new book "Illiberal India: Gauri Lankesh and the Age of Unreason".
"No," said a police official when asked whether the Maharashtra SIT had approached them to question the gang.
Waghmare's is the 6th arrest in connection with the killing of Lankesh, who was shot dead in front of her house here on September 5 last year.
This is the first official confirmation of the link between the two killings which happened after a gap of two years of each other.
The contact details given by the accused while making his account on Facebook were fake, the police said.
The SIT, probing the murder, said it arrested alleged gunrunner KT Naveen Kumar, who was taken into police custody on March 2 for interrogation in connection with the case.
SIT has found from Kumar’s mobile phone records that he had received many calls from numbers with the prefix 0824, which is the code for Mangalore.

They say the violin mimics the human sound. In his case, it was that of love, of longing. He didn’t know any other way of loving.
Younger people do not have much progressive beliefs; a 2017 survey found that one-third of young people opposed inter-caste marriage.
The pandemic has made it clear that virtual learning is here to stay. In the West, the big question is whether it will dilute the quality of the college experience and education. In India, which grapples with digital divide, the question remains whether this will reach most people at all.
Even after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, many 'informed' individuals in India continue to deny the virus with unscientific claims and unfounded data. The latest? Omicron will end the pandemic.
