Terming the controversy over the security of the Prime Minister as "unfortunate", former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Thursday said that at no point there should be any complacency when it comes to protecting the highest executive office of India.
HD Deve Gowda remembered AB Vajpapayee, with whom he differed on many issues, with fondness and recalls a time when Vajpayee offered support to Gowda when the latter was heading a coalition government at the centre.
Deve Gowda has been in public life for nearly seven decades. He started at the very bottom, as a member of the Holenarasipur Taluk Development Board and reached the very top as India's 11th prime minister, in 1996.
One more member of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda family is entering electoral politics, with his grandson Suraj Revanna finding a place in the JD(S) list of candidates for December 10 legislative council polls, announced on Wednesday. Suraj, a Doctor, son of Gowda's elder son H D Revanna, is JD(S) candidate from Hassan local authorities’ seat, which is the family bastion.
The proposed rally at Jind, for which invitations have also been sent to regional heavyweights including Mamata Banerjee and Sharad Pawar is touted as the precursor to the formation of a ‘Third Front’.
