One more member of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda family is entering electoral politics, with his grandson Suraj Revanna finding a place in the JD(S) list of candidates for December 10 legislative council polls, announced on Wednesday. Suraj, a Doctor, son of Gowda's elder son H D Revanna, is JD(S) candidate from Hassan local authorities’ seat, which is the family bastion.
The proposed rally at Jind, for which invitations have also been sent to regional heavyweights including Mamata Banerjee and Sharad Pawar is touted as the precursor to the formation of a ‘Third Front’.

This is the first time that the JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda has become a member of the Upper House since 1996.
For 87-year-old Gowda, this will be the second Rajya Sabha entry, the first time being in 1996 as Prime Minister.
The JD(S), which has 34 seats in the assembly, is not in a position to win a seat in Rajya Sabha on its own and will need support from the Congress with its surplus votes.

Prajwal Revanna, 29, won the prestigious Hassan seat on Thursday, defeating A. Manju of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with a margin of 1,41,324 votes.
