Ah, to stand up to one’s tallish vows is a difficult chore. We stood nodding in earnest when Zaira Wasim resolved to disassociate herself “from the field of acting” as it went against her religious beliefs. Yet here she is (!), snug in a sarong, with Priyanka and Farhan Akhtar by her side on a beach, en route to Toronto. The ostensible occasion is The Sky Is Pink, to be presented at TIFF. Is this ‘double standards’, screamed a section of Bollywood vigilantes. We think it’s a slight case of miscalculation.

If you’re in the film business, you inevitably end up on a beach holiday in Provence, or Mexico, as in this case, with photos miraculously being posted to exhibit the glorious sunshine. Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar’s romance was not news, but their happy cavorting “set Instagram on fire”. Call the firemen if it gets out of hand, folks!

Once upon a time, they put people on donkeys for banishment. For the IIFA awards in Madrid, hosts Farhan and Shahid arrived on the back of these blinking, but sturdy beasts. Quite suitably, in the land of Rocinante and his incomparable master, a delightfully camp performance followed.

Three In An Over At first glance, it might look like famous people on the deck of a ship before a voyage. It is, actually, the Eden Gardens. The occasion: the IPL final. The stars: Anil Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh. The clickers: Calcuttans who cared a fig for the match.

The Fire-Brands time will tell if Lava, Javed Akhtar’s new poetry collection, lives up to its sudorific title. It’s a given though that Shabana’s incendiary Fire will stay the most searing of the family’s association with the flame. Farhan and Zoya haven’t gotten to playing with fire yet.

Renewed life Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara revived some sagging Bollywood spirit

Serving Sermons To The Choir Going by the vigour Hrithik has exhibited on the promotional tour for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, one could be forgiven for thinking it’s do-or-die time for the embattled actor. Serenading near-swooning girls does not a blockbuster make.
