Mumbai north Congress MP Priya Dutt has already hit top gear on pre-election outreach efforts. After a meeting with the conscientious urban youth of Bandra fort, she recently also attended a haldi-kumkum ceremony in the very Marathi-Gujarati-dominated Vile Parle. Days later, she was there again, for the opening of the Rashtra Kavi Pradeep Chowk. The MP has also been vocal about the regularisation of residential buildings (before 1995) that still don’t have occupancy certificates. While the Bandra girl may look clearly more comfortable in her cosmopolitan home base, she’s scoring points for grappling with “people’s issues” in areas which have traditionally favoured the BJP-Sena alliance.
