The resignation of state Labour Minister Maurya has come as a jolt to the ruling BJP in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
The party is likely to announce its first list of candidates in the next few days, the sources said.
Maurya is widely expected to join the Samajwadi Party but has not made a formal declaration. The SP, however, welcomed him to their fold, even sharing a picture that showed him with party president Akhilesh Yadav.
