Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again After Two Days Of Breather

Monday and Tuesday did not see any change in prices of petrol and diesel. Prior to this, the prices of both the fuel rose by 35 paise each for four consecutive days.

At the time of publishing, petrol in Delhi was being sold at Rs 105.49 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.22 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol rose to Rs 111.43 per litre and diesel to 102.15 per litre.

The local currency opened at 75.27 against the dollar and oscillated between 75.20 to 75.37 during trade on Thursday. It eventually closed at 75.26 against the dollar, 11 paise lower than its previous close.

Bring Fuels Under GST To Slash Price Hike, CTI Urges Centre

"Crude oil was the cheapest in the last 16 years in 2020-21. During corona, between March and May, 2020, when crude oil became cheaper, the central government increased the excise duty on petrol by Rs 13/litre and diesel by Rs 16/litre," a statement from the CTI said.
