Dec 22, 2021 PTI Kashmir: The Delimitation Commission, set up to redraw the assembly seats of the union territory, is learnt to have proposed six additional seats for the Jammu region and one for the Kashmir Valley, after meeting five MPs, including three from NC (National Conference) and two from BJP.
On Delimitation Commission's recommendations, Tarigami said, "We are firmly of the opinion that it (proposal) is divisive and will further deepen the divide in Jammu and Kashmir."
The Delimitation Commission's proposals to add six seats in Jammu and only one in Kashmir have led to protests from several political parties in Jammu and Kashmir including the PAGD, NC, PDP and CPI(M).

The NC had boycotted the first associate meeting of the commission in February saying the exercise was an outcome of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act-2019, which the party had challenged in the Supreme Court.
Referring to the recent killings, Tarigami said, “We have been demanding you must tell us who is behind all these killings and you must take action against those elements and make them accountable.”
Masoodi said the party wants to go through the agenda first before taking the decision over its participation in the meeting.

The commission said the exercise to re-draw boundaries of Assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir is a 'very complex issue and not mere arithmetic.'
Both NC and Congress asked the Delimitation Commission why Jammu and Kashmir had been singled out for the exercise when delimitation of the constituencies had been ceased up to 2016 in the country.
Earlier in the day People’s Democratic Party shot a letter to the Delimitation Commission head telling him that contours and the outcome of the exercise are pre-planned
The delimitation commission was constituted on March 6, 2020, for a period of one year.
The Delimitation Commission is a panel that was set up last year to redraw the electoral constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir and four northeastern states.
