They marched from Mandi House to HRD Ministry, where a student-delegation met the officials following which the group decided to carry on the march to the President's office.
NSUI's Shivam Shukla won the President seat by defeating ABVP's Harshit Pandey by a huge margin while Chandan Kumar Mishra became the Vice President, Avnish Pandey won the General Secretary seat and Rajnikant Dubey secured the Librarian post.
"A part of the same group had gathered outside the university gate and were shouting their usual slogans: kill the leftists, kill the anti-nationals, desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro saalon ko. The mob outside that was doing it was joined by ABVP students from inside the campus also. So who they were is clear."
JNU students have been protesting for nearly three weeks against the draft hostel manual, which has provisions for hostel fee hike, dress code and curfew timings.
Students wanted to march towards the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), where Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is addressing a convocation, but the gates have been barricaded.
The ABVP, in turn, said the two were siding with the Congress, which had supported the accused students, and termed it a "political ploy" divert attention.
Former vice president of AMU Students' Union Sajjad Subhan Rather, who hails from Kashmir, said "We have come to the AMU to build our careers. Please do not snatch away the 'pens' from our hands."
Along with Yadav, a case of manhandling and threatening has been filed against 18 others in the Colonelganj Police Station, and a probe has been initiated in the matter.
