Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara found himself in the middle of a controversy after a video showing his gunman cleaning dirt from his kurta during went viral on social media.

Parameshwara issued a clarification but not before he was slammed by several people.

“I work with my team day in & day out and consider them as my extended family. They're my strength & am hurt by all the talk of my abuse of power to ill-treat them. The help extended to me was spontaneous & not coerced. It should be seen in that light & not blown out of proportion,” the Deputy Chief Minister tweeted.

During his visit to Shivajinagar constituency, Parameshwara was inspecting work on the stormwater drain on Yellamma Koil Street when his kurta was soiled on both sides.

He stopped and his gunman immediately fetched a bottle of water and a handkerchief to clean the dirt on his garment, as seen in the video shared by The Times of India.

Many slammed Parameshwara for allowing the gunman to clean the cloth.

In his defence, Parameshwara said it was a minor issue and that the media was making it out to be an 'international issue".
