Delhi reported a total of 22,751 cases on Sunday, 12 per cent higher than yesterday. The positivity rate stood at 23.53 per cent. At the same time, the national capital also reported 17 deaths in a day, the highest since June 16, 2021.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a high-level meeting reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the country on Sunday. According to NDTV, this is part of the regular exercise that PM Modi follows.
A total of 1,59,632 new coronavirus infections were reported in a day, the highest in 224 days, while the active cases increased to 5,90,611, the highest in around 197 days, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The death toll climbed to 4,83,790 with 327 fresh fatalities,the data stated.
1409 cases of the Omicron variant have been recorded so far. Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of 1,009 cases followed by Delhi at 513, Karnataka 441, Rajasthan 373, Kerala 333 and Gujarat 204.

The active cases increased to 3,71,363, the highest in around 120 days, according to the data updated by the Ministry of Health at 8 am.
Of the total cases, Maharashtra has the maximum at 797, followed by Delhi at 465, Rajasthan 236, Kerala 234, Karnataka 226, Gujarat 204 and Tamil Nadu 121.
The country reported 90,928 fresh coronavirus infections, the highest in over 200 days, that pushed its caseload to 3,51,09,286, data by the Union Ministry of Health said.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the head of the country's vaccine task force Dr NK Arora said that large cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata have a combined 75 per cent share of infections of the highly transmissible coronavirus variant Omicron.
He added that the third wave of the pandemic is very much here.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday decided to shut schools of all mediums for classes 1 to 9 and 11 till January 31 amid a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases in Mumbai, including the Omicron variant.
According to the official, that students of classes 10 and 12 are excluded from this decision which means they can attend schools in person.

As much as 55 per cent out of 282 samples of coronavirus patients from Mumbai, sent for genome sequencing, have tested positive for the Omicron variant, the BMC said on Friday.
89 (32 per cent) of them have tested positive for Delta Derivative and
