Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday handed over his social media accounts to seven women achievers for them to share their lives' journeys and interact with the people on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The prime minister extended his greetings to women on Sunday morning and said that he was signing off from his social media accounts as the seven women achievers would now login to his accounts one by one under #SheInspiresUs campaign.

"Greetings on International Women’s Day! We salute the spirit and accomplishments of our Nari Shakti.  As I’d said a few days ago, I’m signing off. Through the day, seven women achievers will share their life journeys and perhaps interact with you through my social media accounts," he tweeted.

The first woman to take over the PM's account was Sneha Mohandoss. The chennai-based woman started Food Bank India to feed the poor and the homeless. The organisation asks people to cook extra food while cooking for themselves and this is distributed among the needy by Food Bank volunteers.

"Hello, I am @snehamohandoss. Inspired by my mother, who instilled the habit of feeding the homeless, I started this initiative called Foodbank India. #SheInspiresUs," she said in one of her tweets from PM Modi's account.

Speaking about the women achievers before he signed out, Modi said: "These women have done great work in a wide range of sectors. Their struggles and aspirations motivate millions. Let us keep celebrating the achievements of such women and learning from them. #SheInspiresUs."

The PM is also scheduled to interact with Nari Shakti Awardees on International Women's Day at his residence later in the day.

He had earlier announced that on women's day this year, he will give away his social media accounts to women whose life and work inspires people to help them ignite motivation in millions.

However, as the campaign started, a child environmental activist from Manipur on Thursday refused to be a part of it while accusing the government of not actually listening to her demands in order to tackle climate change.

Licypriya Kangujam, an award-winning, eight-year-old environmental activist, said on twitter: "Government don’t listen to my voice and today they selected me as one of the inspiring woman of the country. Is it fair?"
