Cricketer Karun Nair, who shot to fame with his epic triple century at the Chepauk Staduim in Chennai on Monday, scripted history after sailing through some incredible life experiences.

The most tragic incident occurred last July in his home state Kerala.

After he made his international debut in Zimbabwe, Karun’s relatives organised a “thanks giving” at Aranmula Temple in Kearla. But, the ‘snake boat’ they were travelling met with an accident in River Pamba. A few deaths were reported in the incident including Karun’s relatives. The Cricketer, however, narrowly escaped. He was rescued by the villagers while struggling to swim to the shore.

But, for Karun, life has not been a smooth sail since his childhood.

Karun’s mother, Prema Nair, told Manorama News that her son had a premature birth and suffered from “lungs problem” in his childhood. In fact, the doctors suggested Karun’s parents to encourage their son for sports and more physical exercises as part of his treatment. Karun began playing at the street near his home in Bengaluru.

“He would fall and cry initially. Even when he used to play cricket early on, we used to be fidgety and always nervous,” his mother told Indian Express.

“That incident (boat accident) left Karun very shaken and deeply affected. We always ensure not to bring it up in front of him and try to distract him with something else,” the report quoted one of Karun’s relatives.
