Polling for the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections ended at 5pm on Thursday. 

Voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases: April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting will be done on May 23.

7:35 pm: Army troops deployed in Siachen & along the LoC cast their vote.


7:21 pm: Commission took strong security measures to ensure fear free polling in Dantewada, says EC.


7:19 pm: Overall turnout in Chhattisgarh in phase 1 is 56%, says Election Commission.


7:13 pm: West Bengal has recorded highest voter turnout among other states in the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, says EC.


7:11 pm: Overall voter turnout in Andaman and Nicobar is 70.67% says Election Commission.


6:58 pm: Two police commandos escorting poll party injured in an IED blast and firing by Naxals in Etapalli of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district.


6:52 pm: Over 78% of the total of 13,47,381 electorates voted for the first phase of balloting in West Tripura parliamentary seat in Tripura.


6:25 pm: Polling Percentage till 5 PM

Bihar: 50.26%

Telangana: 60.57%

Meghalaya: 62%

Uttar Pradesh: 59.77%

Manipur: 78.20%

Lakshadweep: 65.9%

Assam: 68%


6:27 pm: "Election commission which acted actively in transferring the officials; couldn't maintain EVMs & VVPATs. They've failed," says Chandrababu Naidu.


6:22 pm: 32.4 % polling recorded in Baramulla parliamentary constituency.


5:15 pm: Lok Sabha elections conclude in Bihar.


5:00 pm: Polling for seven Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and the Naxal-affected Bastar constituency in neighbouring Chhattisgarh came to an end at 5 pm.


4:59 pm: Maoist killed in encounter with security forces in Narayanpur district falling under Bastar Lok Sabha constituency in Chhattisgarh.


4:58 pm: Complaint registered with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) demanding action against R Thukral, Media Advisor to Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh.


4:57 pm: Voter turnout till 3 pm in Bihar is 41.73%.

Around 41.73% votes were cast by 3 pm in the four Lok Sabha seats in Bihar where polling is on in the first phase. As per percentage figure released by the Bihar chief electoral officer, Gaya recorded the highest turnout at 44%, followed by Nawada at 43%, Jmaul at 41.34% and Aurangabad at 43%.


4:51 pm: Voter turnout till 3 pm in Andhra Pradesh was 55%, in Arunachal Pradesh was 50.87% and in Sikkim was 55%.


4:45 pm: Voter turnout till 3 pm in Jammu and Kashmir is 46.17%.


4:40 pm: BJP member Ravi Dutt Mishra joins Congress.


4:09 pm: Infiltrators are termites, will throw them out: Amit Shah.

Referring to illegal migrants from Bangladesh as "termites", BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday said his party will throw them out after coming to power at the Centre for a second consecutive term.

"We will ensure implementation of NRC in the entire country. BJP will remove every single infiltrator from the country. All Buddhists & Hindu refugees will be identified&Indian nationality will be given to them".


4:05 pm: Voter turnout till 3 pm in Mizoram is 55.20%, in Tripura West parliamentary constituency is 68.65% and in West Bengal is 69.94%.


3:59 pm: 57% polling in Odisha till 3.30 pm.


3:56 pm: Sonia Gandhi files nomination from Raebareli. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra also present.


3:40 pm: 27.8% polling recorded in Baramulla parliamentary constituency in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls till 3 pm. A total of 365338 votes cast till 3 pm.

3:30 pm: Andhra Pradesh Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao allegedly attacked by YSRCP activists in Intimetla village in Rajulapalem mandal of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.

He is contesting from his native Sattenapalli assembly constituency.


3:20 pm: 27.8% polling recorded in Baramulla parliamentary constituency in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls till 3 pm. A total of 365338 votes cast till 3 pm.


3:10 pm: Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani, who is contesting against Congress President Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday filed her nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections.

3:00 pm: After people tried to cast vote without voter ID at a polling station in Shamli, BSF personnel fired shots in the air for security reasons. Voting has resumed now.


2:50 pm: Not a single vote cast in booth no 6 & 8 in Mathili block in Odisha's Malkangiri district due to fear of Maoists.


 2:40 pm: Overall voting percentage in Jammu and Kashmir up to 1 pm is 35.52 per cent 


2:30 pm: When asked whether she thinks Prime Minister Narendra Modi is invincible, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi replied in negative. She said "Not at all. Don't forget 2004. Vajpayee Ji was invincible, but we won"

2:20 pm: "There have been many people in Indian history who had arrogance to believe that they are invincible and bigger than the people of India. Narendra Modi for the last 5 years has done nothing for the people of India. His invincibility will be in full view after the election results," said Congress president Rahul Gandhi


2:15 pm: Irregularities reported in EVM in Booth no 90 in MV 14 village in Malkangiri district of Odisha. Vote cast for one party is credited to another, complain voters who are sitting on a dharna. Two EVM s replaced after complain.


2:10 pm: 41.27% polling recorded in Uttarakhand(all 5 seats) for the Lok Sabha elections till 1 pm


2:05 pm: K Chandrashekhar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana, along with his wife cast their vote at a polling booth in Siddipet district of Telangana


2:00 pm: Bihar: 34.60% voting recorded in Aurangabad, 33% in Gaya, 37% in Nawada and 29% in Jamui, till 1 pm


1:50 pm:  Sonia Gandhi is holding a roadshow in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh ahead of filing nomination for Lok Sabha elections.


1:40 pm: Polling process delayed at some places in Odisha for 40-45 minutes due to glitches in EVM, says state Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar


1:30 pm: After we form the next BJP government, we would remove Article 370 from Kashmir: BJP president Amit Shah at Kalimpong


1:20 pm: Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev cast his vote today at a polling station in Haridwar in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.


1:05 pm: One worker each of YSRCP and TDP were killed and more than 10, including Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao, were injured as clashes broke out between the two parties at various places in the state

Poll-related violence also spread to the politically volatile Guntur district.  People agitated over the malfunctioning of EVM in a booth at Narsaraopet, roughed up poll officials.

12:35 pm: Police resort to lathi charge as clashes break out between YSRCP and TDP workers in Puthalapattu Constituency in Bandarlapalli, Andhra Pradesh. 


12:20 pm: 22% voting in Odisha till 11 am. Voters in Pokhanaguda booth in Nabarangpur boycott polling


12:15 pm: Shobana Kamineni, vice-chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, says her name has been deleted from the voters' list. She says she had checked last week but found herself missing from the voters' list when she went to vote today.


12:00 pm: "I am hopeful that we will be able to win this race, I am very optimistic," says Khammam Congress candidate Renuka Choudhary casts her vote.

11:45: am: Union Minister Smriti Irani performed 'pooja' along with her husband, ahead of filing her nomination for Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. She will take on Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the contest who is also fighting from Wayanad, Kerala.


11:30 am: 22.84% voting recorded in Telangana, 23.78% in Uttarakhand, 23.10% in Lakshadweep, 13.7% in Maharashtra(7 seats), 27% voting in Meghalaya, 24.66% in J&K and 38.08% in West Bengal till 11 am


11:15 am: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has demanded a repoll at several polling stations in the state after reports of glitches in several EVMs. Naidu said that it is "likely that many voters who returned may not come back for voting even if polling is resumed after replacement/repair of existing EVMs. Therefore repolling needed in all polling stations where polling had not commenced up to 9.30am"


11:00 am: Kashmiri Pandits in Udhampur, Jammu cast their votes for Baramulla parliamentary constituency at a special polling station set-up at Municipal Town Hall. A voter says, "We are migrants here. It's our duty to cast vote. We want to return to Baramulla"

10: 38 am: 18.12% voter turnout recorded till 9 am in West Bengal, 17.5% in Mizoram, 10.2% in Chhattisgarh and 15.6% in Manipur


10:30 am: In Baramulla constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, 5.80 per cent voting was recorded till 9 am while the total voter turnout till 9 am was 11.43 per cent. Here is an informative video about the sensitive parliamentary constituency of Baramulla in Kashmir.


10:20 am: 10.2 per cent votes were recorded in Bastar seat between 7 am to 9 am.

10:05 am: Voter turnout recorded till 9 am in Telangana is 10.6%, 5.83% in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 10.2% in Assam and 13.3% in Arunachal Pradesh


10:00 am: Voter turnout till 9 am in Saharanpur- 8%, Kairana-10%, Muzaffarnagar-10%, Meerut- 10%, Bijnor - 11%, Baghpat - 11%, Ghaziabad - 12% and Gautam Budh Nagar-12%


9:50 am: As polling began in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi urged voters to vote wisely. "You vote today for the soul of India. For her future," said Gandhi in a tweet. 


9:40 am: Jana Sena MLA candidate Madhusudhan Gupta smashed an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at a polling booth in Gooty, in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. He has been arrested by police


9:20 am: Voters outside a polling booth in Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad.


9:10 am: Union Minister and BJP candidate from Muzaffarnagar Sanjiv Balyan on Thursday alleged that fake voting is taking place and faces of "women in burkhas" are not being checked. "If not looked into, I will demand a repoll," said Balyan


9:00 am: In Andhra Pradesh, there are complaints about technical glitches in EVMs in about 50 places, state Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said. Technical teams were on the job to rectify the defects and enable polling, he added.

8: 40 am: "I'm very confident, people are looking for a change, vote without fear," says YSR Congress Party Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy after casting his votes in Kadapa. Assembly polls to 175 seats will be held in the state simultaneously in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

8:35 am: In a bid to disrupt the polling happening in insurgency-hit Bastar region, Maoists triggered a blast in the wee hours around 4:15 am near Pharasgaon village in Narayanpur district about 230 km south of state capital Raipur.

Superintendent of Police Narayanpur District, Mohit Garg said no one was hurt in the incident

7:00 am: Voting begins for 91 constituencies in 18 states and two union territories in the 1st phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019

6: 55 am: The first phase of polls will decide the fate of 217 candidates. There are 26 hopefuls in fray for Lok Sabha seats and 191 for assembly seats.
