Make sure that third time you are lucky because there is never going to be a fourth at the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical and dental colleges.

NEET has capped the number of attempts a medical aspirant can make to three to discourage those who never say die and keep trying and trying for years, reported The Times of India.

NEET is a single window entrance examination for entry to undergraduate and post graduate medical courses in the country. No other entrance examination either at state level or institutional level is valid anymore. A common entrance test was brought in to save students from appearing for multiple entrance tests and minimise corruption and irregularities in admissions to medical courses.

“The decision was taken at a University Grants Commission (UGC) meeting on Tuesday in Delhi. The minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years. The maximum age for open category students is 25 years, and 30 years for the reserved category . To date, there has never been a maximum age defined to take NEET, nor has there been a limit on the number of attempts.”

“There are some students who keep taking the test, and when they don't make the cut, join a BSc college and keep taking the medical entrance test,“ said Dr Pravin Shingare, director at the Maharashtra directorate of medical education and research (DMER).
