On Pulling Out Army: Our troops are here to protect the life and liberty of our citizens. If the basic cause for their presence is removed, we can consider all these options (troop reduction). There is no reason for us to keep the armed forces in same number and the matter is being constantly looked into by the government.

Army of Occupation? Our armed force is not an armed force of occupation.... They have a proud record, though there could be some aberrations, but these aberrations cannot be allowed. There should be zero tolerance for human rights violations for all our security forces.

On Talks with militant groups: Anybody who shuns violence and gives up the path of terror, we are willing to find ways and means to interact with all such groups.

On the disappeared youth: There was no specific discussion on the issue during the roundtable (On the disappearance of several thousands of Kashmiri youths during the 16 years of militancy). There are, I think, possibilities of taking on board this issue in one of the working groups.

On non-participation by the Hurriyat and other separatists: I did meet the Hurriyat friends. They came and saw me. I was left with the impression that they wanted to take forward the dialogue, though not with absolute finality. I had also given the dates (for the roundtable) and they had given me a clear impression that they were in favour of dialogue. It is a matter of regret. Sometime they would also recognise that it is in their advantage and we must use all our knowledge and wisdom to put an end to the sad chapter of past. This conference gives me hope and confidence. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. If all these gentlemen put together their wisdom, knowledge and experience, we will have a constructive outcome.

On Karan Singh's remarks that he was not consulted on the roundtable: I would not like to say anything on what I have not read or seen. (On the senior Congress leader that he was not consulted on the roundtable).

On Unemployment: The government will consider all pragmatic measures to deal with the issue which affects youth of the country, including those in J&K.

On Reservations and Quotas: I am pained to see the agonising experience the youth of the country are undergoing. They should call off their strike and I assure that the government will find a viable and credible way to protect the interest of all sections of the society. I think the matter is already settled.

I am not averse to meeting any group of our citizens, if they want to talk to me. It is time for the whole process to gather momentum. And we have lot of time to discuss any practical problem that may arise.

The government will set-up committees of Vice-Chancellors of Central universities and directors of IIMs and IITs on how to increase the facility in all these institutions in such a manner that the interest of all groups of students is protected.

It was not correct to say I was silent or not visible. I have earlier appealed twice... I once again appeal to call-off their agitation and we will find a viable and credible way to protect the interest of all.

We have time to look into the problems and concerns of the agitating section of the society as the reservations would be implemented in June next year.
