Visiting Bangladesh continued to dominate the first Test against Sri  Lanka in Pallekele, but the bad light forced early stumps on Day 2. Bangladesh were 474/4 after 155 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das unbeaten on 43 and 25 runs respectively. On a slow churning day at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, only 65 overs were played. Resuming at the overnight score of 302/2, Bangladesh reached 378/2 in 118 at lunch with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque on 155 and 107 runs respectively. The visitors reached 400 runs in the 128th over and 450 in the 148th. Lahiru Kumara and Dhananjaya de Silva were the successful bowlers for Sri Lanka, claiming the wickets of Shanto (163) and Haque (127).
