Indians were in contention for medals in three disciplines -shooting, swimming and athletics - at Tokyo Paralympics on Wednesday.  But as luck would have it, shooters had an underwhelming day, while swimmer Suyash Jadhav was disqualified from the race. In athletics Amit Saroha and Dharambir finished fifth and eighth, respectively. India were lying 34th with a haul of 10 medals so far - two gold, five silver and three bronze medals. China lead the standings with 147 medals which include 68 golds. Avani Lekhara, who shot India's first ever shooting gold medal at the Paralympics, wasn't able to repeat her show in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. 7:30 PM IST: Pramod Bhagat defeated Manoj Sarkar 2-1 (21-10, 21-23, 21-9) in the men's Group Play stage SL 3 category.


7:00 PM IST:  Ayako Suzuki defeated Palak Kohli 2-0 (21-4, 21-7) in Women's Singles SU5 Group Play Stage.


5:58 PM IST: Athletics: Men's Club Throw F51-Final: Musa Taimazov leads the event with world record throw of 35.42m. Marian Kureja of Slovakia is second with a throw of 30.66m, while Mexico's Mario Santana Hernandez is now third with a throw of 30.25. This means both Indians Amit Kumar Saroha and Dharambir are out of medal contention.


5:46 PM IST: Athletics: Men's Club Throw F51-Final: Musa Taimazov leads the event with world record throw of 35.42m. Mexico's Mario Santana Hernandez is now second with a throw of 30.25, while Amit Kumar Saroha is now at third spot. Other Indian Dharambir is out of medal contention.


5:20 PM IST: Athletics: Men's Club Throw F51-Final: Musa Taimazov of RPC world record throw of 35.42m relegates Amit Kumar Saroha to second spot. Dharambir out of medal contention.


4:55 PM IST: Athletics: Men's Club Throw F51-Final: After first three throwers, India's Amit Kumar Saroha is leading with a best throw of 27.77. Belarus' Uladzislau Htyb is second with a throw of 27.47, while Dharambir is third with a throw of 25.59m

3:22 PM IST: Badminton: Mixed Doubles SL3 SU5 Group B- Match 1:  Palak Kohli and Pramod Bhagat lose 2-1 (9-21, 21-15, 19-21) lost to Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel of France.


3:10 PM IST: Badminton: Mixed Doubles SL3 SU5 Group B- Match 1:  Palak Kohli and Pramod Bhagat have bounced back to win the second game against Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel of France. The match is tied 1-1 (9-21, 21-15). over to third game


2:30 PM IST: Badminton: Mixed Doubles SL3 SU5 Group B- Match 1:  Palak Kohli and Pramod Bhagat in action against Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel of France


1:45 PM IST: Swimming- Men's 100m Breaststroke SB7 - Final: In a heartbreak for India, Suyash Jadhav was disqualified.  Colombia's Daniel Carlos Zarate won the race, while Egor Efrosinin of Russia came second. Blake Cochrane finished third.

9:50 AM IST: R3 - Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Final: Natascha Hiltrop of Germany won gold in a shootout in the mixed 10m air rifle SH1. Korea's Park Jinho clinched silver, while Ukraine's Iryna Shchetnik won bronze.


8:20 AM IST:  China's Zhu Dening jumps to a new world record:  Zhu Dening broke a world record with a leap of 7.31m  to win gold in the long jump T38 class event.  China's Zhong Huanghao leaped 6.80m to claim silver, while Colombia's Jose Greogorio Lemos Rivas won bronze with a jump of 6.53m.


7:35 AM IST: Next Indian in fray will be Suyash Jadhav in Swimming- Men's 100m Breaststroke SB7 - Final


7:15 AM IST: R3 - Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1: India's Avani Lekhara failed to qualify and finished at 27th position with score of 629.7. Other two Indian's  in fray Babu Sidharth finished at 40th place with score of 625.5, while India's Deepak Kumar was at 43rd place with score of 624.9.



Wednesday will be Day 3 of the shooting competition. Two finals will be played on Wednesday at the Asaka Shooting Range, with the R3 - mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1 opening the day’s action.

China’s Cuiping Zhang is one the biggest name in the R3 event. Zhang has been a silver medallist at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics and bronze medallist at the London 2012 Games. She also has been a World Champion in Suhl 2014 in the category.

Moreover, she is a four-time Paralympic champion in R2 - women's 10 m air rifle standing SH1, R8 - women's 50 m rifle 3 positions SH1 and R6 - mixed 50 m rifle prone SH1 with her two gold medals coming at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

India’s Avani Lekhara, who claimed her country’s first ever gold in shooting Para sport on Monday, returns in search of another podium. Avani will team up with Deepak. The other Indian shooters in action will be Sidhartha Babu.

In the afternoon session, Suyash Yadav will compete in the men's 100m breaststroke SB-7 final. In the last medal event of the day for Indians, Amit Kumar Saroha and Dharambir will be in the finals of the men's club throw (F 51).  

Badminton action also starts on Wednesday with mixed doubles, men's and women's singles group matches.
