Chennai Super Kings reclaimed the top spot in IPL 2021 points table with a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah. Catch highlights
CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl after a sandstorm delayed the start of the match in Sharjah. RCB got off to a flier with skipper Virat Kohli (53) and Devdutt Padikkal (70) making merry. But RCB failed to post a big enough total to intimidate CSK as Dwayne Bravo led the 'Dad's Army' to a splendid fightback. CSK then completed the chase in 18.1 overs. Suresh Raina hit the winning run, a streaky single, with Dhoni at the non-striker's end. The chase started in a resounding fashion as openers, Ruturaj Gaekwad (38) and Faf du Plessis (31), dominating RCB bowlers in a 71-run stand. There were quick wickets in the middle overs but three-time champions kept their cool. They now have won seven of the nine outings, same as Delhi Capitals. But their net run rate of 1.185 trump Delhi's 0.613. RCB, with their seventh straight defeat in the UAE, remain third. They have won five this season in nine matches.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings started the UAE leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with contrasting results. Virat Kohli's RCB suffered a nine-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders, but MS Dhoni's CSK were triumphant against defending champions Mumbai Indians. Then there were interesting developments too, pertaining to the two captains as cricket's focus shifted from Pakistan to the UAE. While Dhoni was made the mentor of the Indian team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, Kohli announced his decision to step down as the captain of the national team in the shortest format and also RCB. And inescapably, when the two teams meet tonight at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the focus will be on the two captains. They have long been the antithesis of each other.
